Large Build Volume

The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga features a build volume of 800mm x 800mm x 1000mm (31.5” x 31.5” x 39.4”), significantly larger than other FDM 3D printers offered by Elegoo. The OrangeStorm Giga is equipped with drag chain cable carriers on the X and Z axes, which prevent cables from fraying while printing and extending across a large range of motion.

Multiple Extruder Configuration

The OrangeStorm Giga can be equipped with up to four independent extruder assemblies for printing multiple colors or materials. The extruder modules are equipped with a 300℃ high-temperature nozzle, a 60W ceramic heating pad, and a dual-gear extruder combined with a built-in acceleration sensor for consistent printing at high speeds. The OrangeStorm Giga is advertised as having a top speed of 300mm/s, with a more conservative recommended speed of 150mm/s.

Other Features

The OrangeStorm Giga has all of the features that you would expect in a higher-end consumer FDM 3D printer, including filament detection, a large 7-inch LCD touchscreen, power loss recovery, and silent stepper drivers. The OrangeStorm Giga uses a silent TMC2209 stepper driver on the X and E-axes, a TMC5160 on the Y-axis, and a pair of 35774 drivers for the Z-axis.


An interesting feature of the OrangeStorm Giga is the heated build platform, which is composed of four independently heated removable magnetic PEI platforms. These four platforms are advertised as being able to be heated simultaneously to 90°C in 17 minutes. The four platforms can be manually or automatically controlled, with the printer being capable of heating only the platforms on which the model is being built to reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency.

The Cocoa Press 2.0 is the latest chocolate 3D printer from Ellie Weinstein and the team at Cocoa Press and it features many quality-of-life upgrades over the original machine, launched in 2023. Designed for 3D printer hobbyists and chocolatiers alike, the Cocoa Press 2.0 aims to improve the experience of the original machine while remaining accessible for beginners without 3D printing experience.

Updates and Features

The Cocoa Press 2.0 has several upgrades over the original model including upgraded electronics (BigTreeTech SKR Pico, BTT PI 1.2, BTT HDMI55, BTT SKSM, and BTT Hermit Crab), a new UI (Press Print UI), and a fast-swap extruder that can be used to quickly swap out the chocolate cores used during printing. The extruder is advertised as being compatible with the upcoming Cocoa Buddy, an unreleased chocolate 3D printer designed for multi-color and continuous chocolate printing modes.

The POP 3 Plus Standard Edition case includes pockets for the various cables as well as the demo model, which makes transporting the scanner a simple process. In addition to the case, Revopoint includes a player board which can be used to calibrate the scanner to increase accuracy. The player board is printed on glass, and a soft fabric case protects the board from scratches or cracks.

The POP 3 Plus includes a small bust as a demo model, which has a dull finish and several fine details that make it an ideal candidate for a first scan.

Using the included turntable, I positioned the demo model in the center and used the wired connection on the POP 3 Plus to connect to a Macbook Pro.

– Revo Scan 5. The POP 3 Plus is compatible with the first-party Revo Scan 5 software, which is a fully-featured scanning application that can also edit and process 3D scan data. A typical scanning workflow involves capturing point cloud data, isolating and removing floating points, creating a mesh, and exporting. Revo Scan 5 has powerful tools for each of these functions, as well as a “One-click Edit” function that will automatically run through default settings for each operation and skip straight to a processed mesh.


Using the High Accuracy setting in Feature Tracking mode, this demo model only took a few minutes to capture and the One-click Edit generated a printable model in a single click, as advertised. Despite the small size of the model, the file size is 32.2 MB, which leaves plenty of room for optimization using a decimation tool like the Low Poly 3D Generator.

Revopoint has also 蝌蚪窝视频 a desktop 3D scan processing app called Revo Scan 5, which can edit point clouds, 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 meshed 3D models, apply color textures, and more. The workflow on the app is essentially the same as the workflow on the handheld MIRACO 3D scanner, making the transition an easy one for users who aren’t familiar with Revo Scan 5.

– WiFi. Scans can be transferred via Wi-Fi or USB by directly plugging the MIRACO into a computer, where the point cloud data and any processed models are transferred. Just like the selection tools available on the scanner, isolated points can be selected automatically or manually for deletion, overlapping points can be deleted, and other similar operations are available.

– Isolation Tool. Revo Scan 5 includes many useful tools that can be used to clean and process scan data before generating a mesh. The Isolation tool is one of the most useful, as it can quickly detect points that are not near the mesh and select them so they can be deleted. Using the Isolation tool, I selected and deleted the floating points before generating a mesh and a color texture.

The POP 3 Plus uses a bright flash to illuminate the model when capturing a color texture, which 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩s a slightly washed out color texture. While the color texture isn’t perfect, it’s an improvement over previous generations and the overall appearance would be acceptable for color reference. Revo Scan 5 can export color as either a color texture image or per-vertex coloring, so users have options depending on their desired workflow.


Optical Zoom Feature

The POP 3 Plus features a new optical zoom feature, which allows for 1.5x and 2x optical magnification for scanning small objects with fine features. Using the dual-axis turntable and marker mode, I scanned a coin that measured 34mm in diameter using the 1.5x magnification.

After acquiring the scan data, I processed the model using the Advanced Fusing 0.10mm point distance setting on the Point Cloud Fusion step. This resulted in a finely detailed mesh, which retained much of the surface detail of the coin. Some of the smaller features like the text didn’t fully resolve, but this is still an impressive result from a quick scan of such a small and detailed model.

Revopoint also sent the Dual-axis Turntable, an optional $99 accessory which allows a model to be precisely rotated during scanning and tilted +/- 30 degrees. The Dual-axis Turntable has three buttons on front of the unit: tilt left, start/stop, tilt right.

I was excited to use this unit, as tilting features are usually reserved for more expensive integrated units like the $22,500 Artec Micro II 3D scanner. The turntable includes a double-sided sticky mat which allows objects to adhere to the rotating platform.

I scanned a 3D print of the Bronze Frog by David Sosalla from Printables, and completed the scan without manually repositioning the subject. The scanner connects to the Revo Scan 5 software using Bluetooth, and speed / position can be controlled directly from the interface. The turntable can be repositioned during a scan, so any areas not captured can be exposed to the scanner.


I was impressed with the overall experience, but I was a little disappointed to find that the turntable needed to be manually repositioned during the scan to capture all angles. I was hoping that the turntable would be able to complete a revolution, tilt, and capture the next region automatically, which would reduce the amount of work needed per scan significantly. While this isn’t the case, it’s still an impressive piece of hardware for under $100.

Importing the 3D scan into Blender, I was able to generate a render which clearly shows the layers on the base of the model that are a result of the FDM filament printing process. The scan is accurate to the model, and the overall level of detail captured was impressive considering the model didn’t require any manual repositioning.

The sticky mat on the Dual-axis Turntable works well for models that have a surface that can be adhered to it, like this colorful summer bird decoration. The color capture on the POP 3 Plus also generated clean and clear color textures, down to the fabric texture on this bird. I did find that the model could fall when tilted close to the end of the range, and I found myself wishing I had a way to secure models to the rotating platform using some kind of fixture or clamp.

The Polymaker PolyDryer includes the drying station, a PolyDryer Box, a combination hygrometer and desiccant storage box, and a pair of seals that can be attached to the Box, and a few spare parts. The included desiccant changes color as it absorbs moisture, which provides users a visual indicator of how much moisture is present during drying.

The PolyDryer doesn’t require much setup, but the desiccant container needs to be filled by hand before using the machine. This is a delicate process, as the desiccant beads are very small and will bounce all over a desk if you’re not careful (ask me how I know). Once the container is filled, there is a tab that needs to be removed on the battery compartment which will activate the hygrometer and provide a real-time reading.

The PolyDryer unit has a printed guide on the top of the unit that shows a breakdown of filament types sorted by the Power Level required to dry them, as well as the recommended times for each.

The interface on the front of the unit is simple and easy to understand, with a Start/Stop button controlling the unit, two buttons for increasing/decreasing the value on the screen, and a selector to toggle between time and Power Level.

Using the suggested settings for PETG (Power Level 2, 6 hours of drying time), I dried a spool of GreenGate3D Mars Red PETG that had been open and unsealed since 2020. It only took a few clicks to adjust the power level and get the unit started. The integrated hygrometer measured 44% when the filament was first placed in the box, and by the end of the six hour cycle it was measuring 25%.

Using GreenGate3D Mars Red PETG, I printed a Benchy on the Bambu X1-Carbon before and after the complete six hour drying cycle using the same gcode file. The model printed before shows significantly more stringing and voids where moisture was present, as well as an overall inconsistent appearance on sidewalls. The model printed after shows an improvement in overall quality and significantly fewer bubbles and defects. Once the print was completed, the filament was stored in a sealed PolyDryer Box where it remains protected from absorbing excess moisture.

The PolyDryer is designed to process a single PolyDryer Box at a time, but the printable ‘Double Barrel Mod‘ from Printables user 3DPrintSOS allows users to attach two boxes to the dryer at the same time.

During my testing of the PolyDryer, this was the only feature I found myself wishing for and I was happy to see that someone else had released a design to solve this problem. This is just one of several printable accessories promoted on the Polymaker Printables page, which highlights the close community engagement Polymaker has with its users.

For materials that readily absorb moisture or require conditioning before printing, having the material sealed and ready to dry is a critical problem which can be solved by the PolyDryer Box.

Before each print, the Mars 5 Ultra runs through a series of self-tests before calibrating the build platform in advance of the first layer exposure. player is not required before a print, a compelling feature for power users and beginners alike. The only downside is that cleaning the platform can be difficult, and requires a great deal of patience to clean between the stand-offs.

Another notable feature of the Mars 5 Ultra is the tilting vat, which separates the part from the release film instead of simply raising the platform. This is the same process used on the Prusa SL1S, and is primarily intended to increase the overall print speed without risking the part delaminating from the platform.

– Drip Tray. Due to this tilting action, the vat has a small gap surrounding it to allow for articulation. When removing parts it’s possible for resin to drip into the printer, so Elegoo includes a plastic drip tray which can be used to catch resin when removing the platform from the machine.

The Mars 5 Ultra ships with ChituboxBasic v2.2, the latest release of the popular slicer software. This version of Chitubox includes all the software functionality you would expect (hollow, dig hole, generate supports, etc.) as well as the inclusion of ChituManager.

– WiFi. ChituManager is a fleet management software plugin that can send prints via Wi-Fi, remotely monitor supported printers using the integrated webcam, and provide printer statistics (total exposure time, release film usage, etc.).

– Camera and Time-lapse Videos. ChituManager can also generate time-lapse videos using the integrated webcam of the Mars 5 Ultra. The webcam is located in the rear of the printer and points forward, so it can be tricky to get a clean video. I placed a white foam core board in front of the printer and placed a high wattage light behind it, creating a clean background for the video.


With the dark tinted lid on the machine, it can be hard to make out details but the overall convenience of a timelapse that requires very little setup is going to satisfy most casual users.The time-lapse video is 1280 x 720p resolution, and the two hour and 42 minute print resulted in a seven second video, which feels about the right length for sharing on social media.

Like many other Elegoo resin 3D printers, the Mars 5 Ultra includes a Rook demo print prepared for printing on the USB thumb drive. This print works as a quick validation that the LED light source, masking LCD, and mechanical systems of the printer are all functional.

However the difficulty in removing it from the platform and uninspiring geometry left me wishing the Elegoo would finally update this model. Other companies in the desktop resin 3D printer market have partnered with 3D modelers to include pre-sliced models that are educational as well as informative regarding the performance of the printer.

As I’ve noted in a previous review of the Elegoo Saturn S, the internet is filled with beginners complaining they can’t remove the model from the platform. Simply angling it and placing it on supports would make for a better first impression, and also demonstrate the strategy of printing at an angle.

I printed a 3D model of Rodin’s Hand of God that I 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩d from a 3D scan using Elegoo 8K Standard Photopolymer in Space Grey from Amazon. The hollowing, drain holes, and support structures were all generated using Chitubox and the part was made with the default profile.

– Print Resume Feature. During printing, the Mars 5 Ultra restarted due to a power outage and I was prompted to resume the print from where it stopped. The printer sent the platform all the way to the top of the gantry and then back down, restarting the print from the exact layer where it had stopped. This feature worked exactly as intended, although there was a slight line from where the power outage had occurred.


The 18 micron XY resolution provides razor-sharp detail on small parts, such as the miniature models from Loot Studios. Printing models at 32mm and 75mm scale resulted in sharp details, smooth curves, and fine features that resolved without breaking. The detail on the Standard Marine model from Loot Studios is clean and sharp, and the model printed perfectly on the first try.

The lattice structure of the Voronoi Lattice Frog printed perfectly, and the solid body of the frog printed without sticking to the vat. The bottom surface of the lattice has the pattern of the platform embossed on it, and the sides of the frog are smooth and consistent.

The thin struts of the Voronoi lattice all printed without any visible defects, an impressive feat considering their thin diameter.

I also made a YouTube Short that highlights the tilting vat of the Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra. I printed the dragon model Aria by Louise Driggers, aka Loubie3D, from Printables. I used Nova3D Clear Resin from Amazon and after washing and curing, I sprayed Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss to keep the transparency lasting.

The 3D print came out so clear that I could read the text through the thin wings of the model. The contrast between the uncoated and coated models is impressive, and you can see the impact of this technique clearly in the video.


Wash and Curing Station

The optional Mercury XS wash and cure station, which is also available for purchase on Amazon, is highly recommended. It is designed to be a comprehensive post-processing solution for resin 3D parts. This station features two stand-alone components: the wash station and the UV curing station.

The wash station is a large tub for IPA alcohol as well as a basket to hold small parts. The base of the station has a magnetic drive that spins the impeller in the tub, agitating the IPA and helping to get resin out of even the smallest crevice. Read more about best washing and curing stations.

The UV curing chamber has multiple LEDs, as well as an external LED wand for curing the inside of hollow parts. This is a helpful feature, and I found myself using it regularly to cure parts that still felt tacky after the UV cure. I used the UV wand to project light into the holes on the base of the Hand of God sculpture, as well as into the deeper crevices underneath the fingers.

The UI on the FC01 is a small touchscreen that allows users to toggle between filament types (PLA, ABS, PETG, etc.) and adjust the setpoint temperature for the heater. Once activated, the FC01 takes about three minutes to heat up to PLA temperature using the included USB power cord.

Once the heater has reached the set temperature, the FC01 will beep to alert the user. Placing the two pieces of filament in the heated area and closing the lid will result in a quick beep, followed by another beep to indicate the heating cycle has been completed. The filament is very malleable immediately after heating, so I found myself being very careful not to move or disturb the spliced area to prevent it from cooling with an undesirable curve.

The color texture is patchy and uneven

The PTFE sleeve is removed using an integrated cutting blade in the back of the unit. The integrated fixture holds the filament in place during cutting, and the sleeve has a long perforation applied on one side which allows it to be peeled off.


If heated and prepared properly, the joined area on the filament should appear continuous and not have any voids, bubbles, or bulges.

Connecting two pieces of filament on the SUNLU FC01 is a task that feels like it requires at least three hands, and I found myself constantly using my elbows and palms to move spools while trying to keep the filament together. Because filament tends to have a smaller radius as you get closer to the center of a spool, joining two spools together and maintaining a continuous arc is a difficult process. This also means that spools need to be manually wound, which is another task that is difficult to accomplish with only two hands and no additional equipment.

In addition to joining spools of material, the FC01 can also be used to join individual scraps or short lengths of various 3D printing filament into a single piece. Using four scraps of filament (Elegoo Grey PLA, Prusament Ms. Pink PLA, Bambu Lab Basic Green PLA, and Sliceworx Matte Gradient Aquarius PLA), I weighed them together for a total weight of 24 grams.

Benchy Preview in BambuStudio
Scaling the model for printing

Using BambuStudio, I scaled a 3DBenchy model and adjusted the infill until the estimated filament consumption was roughly 24 grams.

The combined filament was fed directly into a Bambu Lab X1-Carbon via the filament spool holder on the rear, not the AMS. The combined filament printed without issue, and there were no jams, clogs, or other problems apparent during printing. The X1-Carbon smoothly transitioned from one filament scrap to the next, and the final print has layers that are firmly adhered without any obvious weak points or soft connections. I haven’t tested printing with such filament on other budget FDM 3D printers, but there shouldn’t be issues.

The final result is impressive, but it’s worth noting that joining these filament scraps required the use of 5 PTFE sleeves (4 for the filament, 1 which was not cut fully and needed to be reattached). The FC01 includes a total of roughly 200 PTFE sleeves, meaning I have about 39 more similar prints before needing to purchase or 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 new PTFE sleeves. In addition, the PTFE sleeves are a consumable that are disposed of after use, which stands in direct contrast with SUNLU’s tagline “Achieve efficient printing projects with zero waste”.

The overall quality of the MIRACO and the included accessories is high. The overmolded grip on the MIRACO made it feel like I was holding a high-end DSLR camera. In addition, the magnetic buttons on the carrying case allow for one-handed opening and there is an included pouch for the charger. The turntable also includes an extension mat with markers pre-applied for scanning objects too large or too featureless to scan on the included turntable.

The MIRACO is designed to be used as a portable scanner, and the included carrying case and wrist strap make it easy to transport. I was impressed with the amount of thought that was put into the accessories, as the MIRACO can easily be carried to a site for scanning with no additional battery pack, wires, or constant phone or computer connection required. The Revopoint Range (a scanner also designed for large object scanning) requires a mobile app that is running during scanning as well as connections for power and data transfer, all of which can be cumbersome to manage.

Like other Revopoint 3D scanners, the MIRACO includes a small bust that can be used as a demo model in order to get comfortable with the interface of the scanner as well as the post-processing workflow. The integrated LCD interface means that the scanner doesn’t need to be tethered to a computer or mobile device during scanning.

The entire scanning and editing process can be completed on the scanner using an interface that is very similar to the Revopoint mobile app. This is a refreshing change, and makes the portability of the MIRACO a huge selling point over less-expensive scanners that require a tethered power and/or data connection.

Scanned with High Accuracy mode, Feature tracking, and Mesh only (no color), the scan was completed in a total of three passes. The MIRACO had no trouble picking up the tracking when the model was repositioned on the turntable, and automatically snapped the existing point cloud to the new one. The three rings in the picture are small pieces of the table that were picked up by the scanner and included in the point cloud. After completing three full revolutions, I marked the scan as complete and moved to the editing stage

The 6-inch LCD on the MIRACO is large enough to be usable as a touchscreen interface during the editing process. Using the LCD screen, I was able to easily select the points I wanted to keep, invert the selection, and delete all the floating points. I was surprised by how well the interface worked, and found it can act as a substitute for a computer-based process when working with simple scans that require minimal post-processing.

Once complete, I transferred the project to my computer to check the quality of the scan. The resulting mesh was clean and didn’t contain any floating points or extra data. There is no additional work required using the Revo Scan 5 app, just exporting the mesh as a print-ready mesh .stl file. Revo Scan 5 can also export .ply and .obj formats as well as full-color texture when enabled.

The exported .stl file is a 20 MB manifold mesh with a high level of surface detail. The bottom of the original bust isn’t completely flat, and will rock back and forth if moved. Importing the mesh into Bambu Studio, I used a planar cut to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 a flat surface on the bottom of the model, making it easier to print on the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon.

Compared with the original model, the printed version is a faithful reproduction with the sharp details around the nose and mouth resolving well. The original model has sharp creases around the eyes, and these are visible in the 3D scan of the model. Printed at a layer height of 0.2mm, some of the finer details are a little soft, which could be improved by printing at a higher resolution or at a different orientation.

The workflow on the app is essentially the same as the workflow on the handheld MIRACO, making the transition an easy one for users who aren’t familiar with Revo Scan 5. I found that complex processing steps like Fusion were faster on my computer (a 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro with 64 GB of RAM), but still only took a few minutes when done on the MIRACO scanner. Given the battery drain of these steps, it’s an appealing option to capture point cloud data in the field and have a way to review it for coverage before processing. Either way, it’s entirely possible to use the MIRACO and exclusively perform edits and processing on the scanner itself.

The default scanning mode of the MIRACO is Continuous Mode, which operates by continuously capturing frames and adding points to a point cloud. In addition to this process, the MIRACO also offers a Single Shot mode which operates more like a digital camera being used for photogrammetry. In this mode, clicking on the shoulder button will capture a single frame, allowing the user to move around large models and capture frames individually. I also used Continuous Mode in Near Mode to scan small and detailed models, and the process felt more like a photogrammetry scan instead of a structured light scan.


Far Mode Scanning with the Revopoint MIRACO

The Revopoint MIRACO has two modes when scanning: Far Mode and Near Mode. As the names indicate, the modes can be used depending on what you’re scanning. Near mode requires the camera to be only a few inches from the model, while Far Mode allows you to stand a bit farther back, ideal for walking around a larger object like a statue, car, or chair.

I used the Far Mode to scan a chair, and was impressed with how well the detail of the wooden frame was captured. In addition, the color texture of the padding seat and back clearly shows the stitching while the underlying mesh has a gentle geometric texture applied to it.

When using Far Mode, the MIRACO still offers High, Standard, and High-Speed modes for accuracy as well as alignment and object type control. Using the High accuracy setting in Far Mode, larger objects like a stone wall can be scanned to quickly capture the color texture as well as the underlying geometry. For users looking to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 assets from scans, this is a quick way to capture large objects and prepare them for export.

Using Near Mode, geometry can also be captured for reverse engineering. Using the MIRACO as a handheld scanner, larger models like a NERF blaster can be partially scanned to capture critical areas where precision is required. The MIRACO is advertised as having a single frame accuracy of 0.05 mm, but I found that some of the sharper features on models tended to soften during the Mesh operation, which reduced the overall accuracy of the model.

The Revopoint MIRACO can also capture color texture and apply a texture map to mesh 3D models. Previously on other Revopoint scanners, I had issues with color texture not applying appropriately or looking smudged around transition and inflection points.

To test out the color, I scanned a felt model of two avocados holding hands, which has a matte finish and distinct transitions between colors.

Scanned using the included turntable in Near Mode at high accuracy and color texture enabled, the models were captured well as could be expected. The point cloud 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩d by scanning the felt resolved into a rough surface that nicely approximated the surface of the model, and the colors were applied evenly and as expected. It’s worth noting here that Revo Scan 5 no longer uses a glossy material when rendering the solid mesh, so it’s easier to spot defects than previous versions of the software that added a high gloss to scanned models.

Exported as an .obj, the Revo Scan 5 desktop app will automatically generate the .mtl and .jpg for the texture of the model as well as the geometry in the 3D mesh. Importing the model into Blender reveals that the color texture looks clean and well-defined. Unfortunately, I found that other models (anything remotely reflective) had issues with the color not interpolating between scans evenly, leaving a visible seam or tear in the color. Overall, I think the color texture is a nice bonus of the MIRACO, but not a primary selling point.

Just like the tripod included with other Revopoint scanners, the Inspire tripod has functionality both as a stationary tripod as well as a handheld grip. The neck of the tripod can be extended to allow scanning taller or wider objects in turntable mode, and the legs have a rubber overmolding which makes it easy to hold. The 140 gram Inspire is lightweight and comfortable to hold, even with the tripod attached.

The included turntable extension mat is a thin sheet with markers printed directly on the top surface. While potentially useful for scanning flat objects, the mat sags slightly when placed directly on top of the turntable. This may make it harder to scan long or heavy objects that will exceed the diameter of the turntable underneath without bending the mat. A rigid plastic topper (like the one included with the POP 3) works better for this application, but the more budget-friendly Inspire includes the flexible mat instead.

The Revopoint Inspire is compatible with Revo Scan 5, the same software used by the more expensive Mini, Range, and POP 3 3D scanners. This software controls the scan parameters (color, detail level, exposure, etc.) as well as a host of editing tools for processing the raw data before creating a 3D model. This all-in-one approach is ideal for beginners and those without experience with mesh editing, which will be a likely target audience of the low-cost $439 Inspire.

The included demo model is a chalky plaster material and the dull matte finish is perfect for this style of 3D scanning. The model rubbed against the packaging during shipping, causing some small black marks on the back of the head.

Scanning the model in Color Mode was able to capture this discoloration, a nice touch that shows the Inspire is able to scan high levels of contrast (black on white) when creating color scans. This discoloration was easily discernible in the Meshed render view in Revo Scan 5.

Unfortunately, applying the color texture captured by the RGB camera to the mesh did not result in a sharper, more accurate model. The color texture can only be applied on models that are captured in a single scan. This means the only way to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 a color texture on a model that captures all sides is to pause a scan, rotate the model, and resume scanning. This changes the lighting on the model and results in uneven color patches that don’t smoothly merge together. As an example, the demo print has bright blue, yellow, and red patches in some of the shaded areas that don’t evenly blend with the rest of the texture.


Combining Scans with the Revopoint Inspire

For many objects, some amount of rotation will be required in order to completely capture all the sides and features. For example: scanning this banana requires one scan with the banana on its side, and one with the banana upright.

Because the banana doesn’t have a flat surface to rest on, using the included Blu Tack to hold it in place on the turntable allows for a smooth scan without the part moving or changing position. The Revo Scan 5 software allows the point cloud to be edited directly, so the geometry of the Blu Tack can be selected and deleted. When merging multiple point clouds, extra geometry (like the blue tack) can cause issues with alignment and mesh quality, so being able to select and delete them is critically important. The Lasso select tool allows the points to be quickly circled, selected, and deleted in only a few clicks, and this process is simple and fast.

After scanning the banana twice and cleaning up the point cloud to remove isolated points and remove the blue tack geometry, I used the Feature alignment method to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 a single point cloud.

The resulting point cloud was highly detailed, and had a slightly uneven surface. It’s also worth noting that the color is applied to the mesh on a per-vertex level. There is currently no ability to apply a color texture to a model made from multiple scans in Revo Scan 5 without using a third party software, something that beginners may not be expecting or have the ability to use.


Shiny or Reflective Models Scanning

As mentioned in the digital .PDF instruction manual, shiny or reflective models are easier to scan when a matte spray is applied to them. I used a dry shampoo to give a light coating to this model, which reduced the overall level of gloss and reflectivity on the various surfaces.

Unfortunately, this spray also 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩s a dull white surface that covers the color, so some experimentation will likely be required to find a balance between color capture and scannability.

Using only a single revolution of the turntable, the point cloud was easily converted into a mesh geometry that lost only a small amount of detail around the base of the model. The eyes of the frog (typically shiny and black) were captured accurately due to the matte spray applied to the model, and the overall quality would be perfectly usable for converting to a 3D print, sharing a 3D model, or other VR / AR 3D application.

The color texture, however, wasn’t quite up to the same standard as the mesh quality. The per-vertex mesh color looks a little soft and blurry, but it is still accurate to the model. The color texture has several seams, transition zones, and a few unexplained dark spots that give the impression of a low-resolution pixelated image applied directly to the underlying mesh.

The tripod included with the POP 3 is a clever design that doubles as a grip. The neck of the tripod can be extended, increasing the height of the scanner and the functional volume it is able to scan. The tripod features a spring-loaded quick-release connection that can be easily attached and detached. The tripod feels sturdy and robust, and I had no stability-related issues during testing.

The Revopoint POP 3 is compatible with Revo Scan 5, a free-to-download software that offers a full suite of functional tools like scan alignment, point cloud simplification, mesh sharpening, hole filling, and more. Just like the Revopoint Mini, the Revopoint POP 3 includes a turntable that can be used to rotate models. This rotation helps to automate the scanning process and generally provides a clean and consistent way to capture the geometry of a model without having to move around it. Revopoint includes a turntable extension topper that increases the diameter of the turntable and makes it easier to position larger objects. This turntable also has markers applied which can aid alignment when scanning in Marker Mode.

My first test using High Accuracy mode 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩d a very dense point cloud, which isn’t ideal for immediately converting to a surface mesh. The typical process to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 a surface mesh from a point cloud is to apply a point cloud fusion, isolate and remove any outlying points, simplify / reduce the number of points, and finally connect the points to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 a triangulated mesh. as an “Auto Edit” mode which will run through all of these settings sequentially but the resulting mesh looks grainy and uneven, indicating that further simplification or smoothing should be applied before meshing. Running through these steps resulted in a much more smooth and consistent mesh.


Color Scanning with the Revopoint POP 3

Revopoint has leaned heavily on the color texture capture of the POP 3 as a major selling point of the scanner, including the following text on the POP 3 page: “Get improved color and texture accuracy through the RGB camera’s bigger aperture capturing more light and dual white LEDs providing supporting illumination to eliminate shadows and make the colors vibrant.”

Despite this optimistic claim, I found that the POP 3 struggles to 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩 clear and consistent color textures, a weakness shared by previous scanners from Revopoint. Scanning a model with “Color Scanning” mode enabled activates the white LED lights on the scanner, which helped to illuminate various colors and textures on the resin garden toad model I was using.

The geometry from the scan looks good, and the details captured (bumps, fingers, eyes, etc.) are all at the level that I would expect from a 3D scanner at this price point. Revo Scan 5 was able to easily handle the processing of the scan, and the resulting mesh is manifold and could be exported for use in VR, AR, 3D printing, or any other application that requires a water-tight mesh geometry.

Similar to the color texture from the Revopoint Range, the POP 3 generated a color texture that looks chalky and uneven. There are visible seams where the lighting changes, the color is inconsistent across features and surfaces, and the overall quality of the color texture is not at a level that I would feel comfortable sharing. The POP 3 excels at capturing geometry and preparing it using Revo Scan 5, but the color texture is lacking in comparison.

Examining the model in Blender shows the texture in a bit more detail. From a distance, the texture looks similar to the paint of the original model, if not a bit splotchier. Getting closer to the model reveals the pixelation, artifacts, and other issues on the texture. Considering the emphasis that Revopoint has placed on the color texture capture capabilities of the POP 3, it’s surprising to see results so similar to previous-generation Revopoint scanners.

Scanning an impact driver with markers was one of the first tests I ran with the original Revopoint POP in July of 2021. The newly updated Revo Scan 5 software shows how far the scanning software has come in the past two years, and the driver can now be scanned easily without markers.

Unfortunately, the model still has issues with the color texture. Revo Scan 5 is not able to combine multiple scans and apply a texture over them, which leaves complex scans in an awkward position. These scans can have color applied on a per-vertex level as an OBJ file, but the model will lack the detailed texture that can be 69精品人人搡人妻人人玩d for models made in a single scan.


Creating 3D printable models with the Revopoint POP 3

A common application for 3D scanning is creating models that can be 3D printed. Models can be reverse engineered, copied, archived, or any number of other applications that require a digital version of a physical object. Revo Scan 5 is capable of creating 3D printable models by processing point cloud data and exporting a water-tight triangulated mesh in .STL format, a common file format in 3D printing.

To test this process, I scanned a vinyl model of Grogu from The Mandalorian. This model is a single color with a matte finish, ideal for 3D scanning and processing.

After processing the scan geometry and simplifying the point cloud, the resulting mesh was impressively detailed. An odd quirk of the Revo Scan 5 software is the material used for rendering; the shiny material has a high gloss which gives the model a ceramic appearance and makes it difficult to make out fine details.

Importing the model into Blender and using a default material gives a much clearer picture as to the overall amount of detail captured by the scanner. Small details like the toes and mouth of the small frog at the base of the model are readily apparent, and there are no missing pieces or areas that require remeshing.

Because the model is a single manifold mesh, it can easily be processed for 3D printing using a slicer program like PrusaSlicer or Cura. I sliced this model at 0.15mm layer height on a Prusa MK3S+, and printed it using Elegoo Grey PLA from Amazon filament. The print took just over 7 hours, and the finished product looks very similar to the original that was used for the scan. For users interested in scanning vinyl figures or similarly sized and featured models, the POP 3 would be a logical choice in the sub-$1,000 3D scanner market.
