This year, Elegoo again launched two Saturns: the basic Saturn 4 and the premium Saturn 4 Ultra. A lot of sophisticated features were added, surprisingly, to both machines, such as auto-leveling and a user-friendly flip-back cover design. Even though the Ultra version has significantly more features for a higher price, the basic Saturn 4 appeared to have everything to complete the tasks with great results.

I was fortunate enough to review three Elegoo Saturns in a row, and if Saturn 2 and Saturn 3 didn’t have a lot of difference between them apart from higher resolution, then Saturn 4 differs in many ways. Now, Saturn 4 received an automatic leveling, a different printing bed and attachment system, and a user-friendly protective cover design. And these are still basic features for the basic version to maintain a very competitive price.

The Elegoo Saturn Ultra 16K has been exceptional to test and use for printing. The machine’s construction is top-notch, retaining the flip-lid design of the 12k Ultra while boosting the resolution to 16K. A major upgrade is the heated resin VAT. During tests, local outside temperatures plunged below zero. In an unheated workshop, such conditions would typically halt printing. However, the heated VAT performed exceptionally, maintaining a steady temperature of about 25°C. It utilizes the build plate to agitate the resin, moving up and down to distribute heat evenly.

If the rinsing process in a pickle jar is straightforward and some old-school makers still use it for particular prints, then leaving fresh prints outdoors to UV cure in direct sunlight is tricky, and we would not recommend trying it without proper research.
Daylight UV curing. The process is hard to control, takes much longer, with the risk of over-curing the resin parts. With this process, a model would need to be turned around manually.

The Best Bundles and 2-in-1 Solutions

2-in-1 solutions are well-suited for casual printing frequency. Space-wise, such stations can be the best option, but it also means a slight rearrangement every time you switch from washing to curing. Specifically, you’ll need to set up and remove the turntable part so that the tank with the cleaning solution can fit onto the base.
Then, bundles are practically two separate machine sets that are more suitable for frequent printing.

In both cases, curing stations are equipped with turntables. However, please bear in mind that these turntables cannot be used for photography or 3D scanning. For safety reasons, the turntable operates only when the UV-blocking enclosure is placed on the machine.

If Elegoo Mercury Plus accompanies well resin printers the size of the Mars 5 Ultra and could be enough for most of casual users, then Mercury XS Bundle is designed to support more than that. The size is big enough to post-process prints from the Saturn 3 printer or two Mars printers at once.

Having two separate units means that washing and curing can be done simultaneously. If you are working with several printers, this could be handy. Also, no reassembling of the turntable base is involved. Casual users with a limited 3D printing workshop space should consider that extra space will be taken by an additional device.

Mercury XS cure system has the UV lights installed underneath the turntable producing continuous and even UV exposure to the whole model.

If you need a wash and cure station with a large capacity and a contained system, there are not a lot of those on the consumer market. The Anycubic Wash & Cure Max emerges as a potential option if you have the space to accommodate it. The flexibility of this station to handle many prints at once or an extra large print can considerably speed up and improve your workflow.

Depending on the size and geometry of the prints, some post-processing jobs may require special cleaning and UV curing solutions. Here are the products we should keep in mind.

Ultrasonic Cleaner Professional Washing Equipment

The first thing to mention is that professional washing equipment is relatively inexpensive to obtain, and it has special functions like managing temperature, for example.
IPA (Isopropyl alcohol), a cost-effective and widely used industrial and household chemical, cannot be used on professional equipment as static 外国啪啪电影 may spark and start a fire.
An extensive range of Ultrasonic Cleaners with different capacity is available on Amazon. Inexpensive VEVOR Ultrasonic Cleaner, for example, comes in 4 different sizes, from 2 to 30 liters. Equipment that was initially designed to clean such metals as silver can also be used to wash resin 3D prints. The cleaning solution should be picked according to safety rules as all of these are the highly flammable solutions with a risk of catching fire.
Regulated temperature. Some resins are required to be washed only at a specific temperature.

Assembly and Setup

The Eibos Oceanus assembled quickly and was ready within a few minutes from unboxing, following the simple instructions manual. The intuitive touch screen made for a seamless user experience, and the simple on-screen information makes for the Oceanus to be accessible for all types of user experience.

As shown in the image below the Eibos Oceanus has two ports for liquid inlet and outlet, connecting both pipes was easy, however as noted the pipes are fairly rigid in nature. But this would be to ensure the integrity of the pipe remained, given the nature of products flowing through them.

– Filters. Oceanus is equipped with filter screen structures and valve in several locations. These filters and valves can effectively prevent resin residue or other large particles from entering the pump body, which in order to ensure the normal operation of Oceanus under long-term work.

– Sensors. Three different designs for preventing liquid spills are included in the Oceanus design. The Oceanus has a built-in water level sensor that can detect water level automatically. There are three distinct water level detections in total: low, medium, and high. These sensors’ functionality is dependent on the settings.

Below are some models that I printed specifically for testing on the Eibos Oceanus to showcase its capabilities. All of the models seen in this review were printed on the Creality Mage Pro 8k resin printer.

Model 1

Mandalorian model by Printed Obsession printed on the Creality Mage Pro 8k using Elegoo 3.0 ABS-like resin from Amazon, this was a hollow model, the model needed to be flipped upside down to fully submerse into the tank. Overall, the model washed, dried and cured exceptionally, with no visible issues, as seen in the image below.

Model 2

Tabaxi Monk model by Printed Obsession. Printed on the Creality Mage Pro 8k using Yousu UTH Nebula pink resin. This model was sliced via the CrealityCloud function. Overall, the model came out stunning and once again washed, dried and cured perfectly. As seen in the image below.

Model 3

Chinese Dragon model by Icenvain was once again printed on the Creality Mage Pro 8K using Elegoo 3.0 ABS-like resin; the model was sliced via the Creality cloud app. Unfortunately, the model was too large for the full model to be fully submersed, but I was able to place the model on each end and wash and cure using the magnet in place. But once again the build volume of the Eibos Oceanus should be considered when slicing any model.

Assembly and Setup

Four hoses with quick-connect connectors are included in the packing, securing connection to the detergent containers. Three of these hoses are used to extract washing solutions from the machine, including the recovery of IPA used in the initial cleaning stage and returning it to the main container. Meanwhile, the translucent hose is responsible for removing the water used in the second cleaning stage.

In terms of the containers, the unit has two rectangular attachments that can hold up to 5 liters of fluid each. The first container is for the major washing fluid, whether it is IPA or another washing detergent, and the second container is for water deployment in the last wash before the curing process. These containers have top caps for hose connections from the machine, allowing for easy filling and emptying based on your needs. Furthermore, each container includes a part that extends to the bottom, ensuring effective liquid pumping into the unit as needed.

Unfortunately, the translucent hose cannot be used for liquid recovery, prohibiting the machine from acting as a two-stage washing station—the first wash using the original container, followed by a second wash for complete cleaning and IPA recovery. Anycubic offers an alternative solution, instructing consumers to collect liquid from the second wash in the collapsible bucket provided with the machine and follow correct disposal procedures in accordance with local laws.

Setup is simple: simply connect the appropriate hose to the individual inlet of each container. The detergent container has two connected hoses, one for input into the device and one for return. In contrast, the water rinse container has only one connecting line. The final clear line empties into the provided bucket or another container of your choice.

The Anycubic Wash & Cure Max features a magnetic locking system that keeps the lid secure during the cleaning and curing procedures, preventing leaks and UV light eye damage.

Volume and Design – Portable Washing Machine

However, it’s worth mentioning that the design, while beneficial, is extremely enormous, necessitating a significant amount of room in your workspace. And of course, this machine would be enough as a post-processing station for most, even extra large resin 3D printers available on the consumer market. Anycubic has generously provided adequate tubing length for each line, allowing us flexibility in container placement and the ability to shorten the lines as needed.

Drawing similarities between the Anycubic Wash & Cure Max and a dishwasher or washing machine appears appropriate at first glance. This equipment, which is mostly made of white plastic, resembles a portable washing machine and has a sleek and clean design. The black control interface, which houses a pair of capacitive buttons for easy interaction, complements its user-friendly features. While the sides of the device are basic white, the back houses the power button and connections for tubes that link to containers containing washing fluids.

The Anycubic Wash & Cure Max has a large overall volume of nearly 15 liters. The actual washing size of a model, on the other hand, is decided by what fits in the provided washing tray — a plastic tray volume is 165x300mm. The tray lies on the plastic rotational unit at the bottom of the Wash & Cure station, which is provided with four additional ball bearings to support the weight of the model during washing and curing.

Examining the unit’s bottom exposes a pair of metallic wire mesh filters that have been precisely placed to prevent minute fragments of cured resin from accessing the pumps. Unfortunately, no technique exists to filter the Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) of the uncured resin that is drawn back into the containers.

Washing and Curing

The Anycubic Wash & Cure Max simplifies the process of washing and cleaning resin parts with a simple one-button activation—simply press the Auto button, and the device seamlessly completes the washing and curing cycle in around 15 minutes. A clever safety mechanism ensures that the top cover remains secured during this operation, preventing any effort to open it while the machine is running. This is especially important given the presence of poisonous vapors from Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and the possibility for fire caused by IPA spraying.

Despite the unit’s user-friendly design, wiping off the spray nozzles is a small but necessary step to guarantee no resin residue remains. It’s a minor effort that ensures the cleaning process’s effectiveness.

A notable feature is the auto mode’s seamless transition from the cleaning to the curing cycle.

It is best to remove supports before placing prints in the wash and cure for best results, since cured supports might be difficult to remove. Personalization becomes important, with consumers, including myself, preferring dry models prior to curing. To fulfill this need, pausing the auto cycle at 4:30 allows models to be removed and completely dried before continnuing with the curing process. A separate wash and cure cycle would have greater versatility for consumers looking for more control over their workflow.

When the cycle is finished, the models can be safely removed. It is recommended to perform an additional drying step, especially given the quick rinse that occurs after the curing process in auto mode. It’s worth noting that when utilizing the cure button alone, this rinse is skipped. Following curing, the pump activates to remove any remaining fluid from the machine.

Maintenance

After each cycle, it’s a good idea to give the nozzles in the two corners a quick wipe down. This preventative approach aids in the prevention of future blockages, helping to the general maintenance and longevity of the Anycubic Wash & Cure Max.

Results

After multiple wash and cure cycles, the Anycubic Wash and Cure Max consistently succeeded in fully cleaning models prior to the curing process. The dual rows of spray nozzles performed admirably, delivering a thorough rinse and cleaning throughout the cycle. Following the wash cycle, a quick water rinse guaranteed that the models were clean and ready for curing. To improve the process, I removed all supports before putting the models through the wash and cure, expecting probable issues in removing supports after the cycle.

All of the printed pieces were immaculate, free of any resin residue, and there were no lingering white patches, which are frequently associated with poor resin removal, especially in grey resin prints. While the nozzles effectively reached different portions of the print, it’s worth mentioning that the inside of hollowed models may not be washed as thoroughly as an immersed washing system might.

Overall, the Anycubic Wash and Cure Max produced excellent results, ensuring clean and residue-free prints after curing. The only disadvantage is the wastewater generated at the end of each cycle, which presents disposal issues based on local rules. Anycubic recommends leaving the liquid in a container for several days to let the resin to settle before sun curing and disposal. In my experience with grey resin, the rinse water did not settle, probably due to the resin pigment, leaving a slight resin odor.

Despite these factors, the Anycubic Wash & Cure Max excels at producing consistently clean prints because to its dual rows of effective spray nozzles. The auto mode’s movement from cleaning to curing in a single cycle simplifies the operation, however some users may prefer more personalization options.

In essence, the Anycubic Wash & Cure Max remains a significant asset for people with plenty of workspace and a requirement for high-capacity resin processing. While it is not without flaws, its ability to produce pristine, residue-free prints after curing establishes its status as a prominent rival in the area of resin 3D printing solutions.

One of the highlights of the setup was the levelling process, which was incredibly simple and hassle-free. Geeetech has clearly prioritized user experience, ensuring that the setup and printing processes are as intuitive as possible.

As an experienced 3D printer user, I genuinely appreciated the efficiency and ease of setting up the Geeetech Alkaid. The clear instructions and user-friendly interface made it a breeze to level the printer by loosening the four screws on the build-plate sides and placing a levelling paper on the screen. Accessing the tools section on the screen allowed for easy adjustment of the z-section, and pressing the home button smoothly lowered the build plate onto the screen. To complete the setup, tightening the four screws and lifting the build plate was all that was required.

The Geeetech Alkaid boasts an all-metal plate, which is a common feature in SLA printers. While the build size of 82mm + 130mm may be small compared to some other printers, it does not compromise the ability to produce excellent quality prints. In fact, I found that the Alkaid’s smaller build size actually made it an ideal choice for beginners looking to learn about 3D printing.

The Geeetech Alkaid produced some excellent prints; all came out clean with high details. I selected a few models from Wicked 3D to test and review the printer, using Anycubic basic grey resin. I maxed out the build plate on a couple of prints to see if the printer would handle it.

Both compositions portray main characters from the Witcher series, namely Geralt of Rivia and Ciri.

Other scenes are fan art based on the recent Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse action/sci-fi movie.

Now, let’s talk about the print quality. I was genuinely amazed at the level of detail and precision that the Alkaid was able to achieve. The models it produced were of exceptional quality, displaying intricate details and smooth surfaces. For a budget SLA printer, this was truly impressive. With the Geeetech Alkaid, I was able to unleash creativity and print various models that showcased its capabilities. From small figurines to busts, the printer handled each design flawlessly, leaving me thoroughly impressed.

– 12K mono LCD. It should be a significant jump in resolution that will take more time to test and compare. For me personally, even with an 8k resolution, the prints were of high enough quality.

– Machine Design. As I mentioned before, I like the curves of the cover. This machine looks stylish, with a sturdy solid base and a distinctive UV protective cover.

– Build Plate. The build plate texture got changed from Laser etched to Laser carved. Such a build plate leaves a nice texture on the bottom of the print if printed directly on it.

I tried a flexible magnetic sheet for a build plate from Amazon on the Saturn 2; it worked OK. Unfortunately, I couldn’t equip the build plate of the Saturn 2 to the Saturn 3, and therefore couldn’t test the flexible sheet on this machine. I bet for certain projects, such a build plate is a very good option to go for.

Bed Leveling and Adhesion

I struggled with bed adhesion. I had at least five failed attempts in a row. After browsing online, I confirmed my fear that the leveling card may be too thick. So, I leveled the bed directly in the vat against the film.

Then I slightly sanded the build plate to increase the grip. Also, I stopped trying to print the Elegoo test file Rook and instead started printing my own files with the slightly adjusted settings.

Namely, I increased the number of bed adhesion layers from 2 to 6 and increased the exposure time to 40. These settings helped me with the bed adhesion of all 3 types of resins I tried: SUNLU Wax, Elegoo ABS-Like, and Anycubic Basic.

Quick Comparison. While Saturn 3 has an old two-point bed 外国啪啪电影 system, Saturn 3 Ultra has a four-point build platform leveling process, similar to Anycubic printers like the Photon Mono X. While the four-point build platform has worked well for me in the past in terms of stability, I agree with Andrew Sink that such a system is much harder to clean from the resin. File Transfer

Saturn 3 only has USB, while Saturn 3 Ultra supports both WiFi and USB. Working with WiFi can be very convenient. I recently reviewed the FDM 3D printer AnkerMake M5 and can say that a well-functioning Wi-Fi and app system can be quite addictive.

Air Purifier

An air purifier with built-in activated carbon reduces the resin odor and stabilizes the air environment in the chamber. All resin smelled much less than when I printed without it. My room still has a strong smell of IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) I am using to wash prints, but that is unrelated.

Chitubox Slicer Software Tips and Settings

On the included USB, there are files for two software programs: Chitubox and VoxelDance Tango. While trying to assess Tango may take more time and a separate article, Chitubox is more familiar to me, and we even have a guide about it on 外国亲热视频.

Apart from tweaking the settings to improve the bed adhesion, I also played it safe and increased the normal layers’ exposure time to 2.9 sec. This made my printing slightly slower, but made me confident that mostly automatically placed supports will work.

– Supports and Raft. When I printed 15 rings with automatically generated supports, I played it safe, applied wide Skate Rafts, and placed the objects close together so the independent rafts would fuse with each other to 外国亲热视频 a solid base. This trick secures adhesion for the whole lot and makes the objects easier to remove from the build plate when printing is done. Also, instead of washing the whole build plate, such a unified print is easier to wash as one object.

To be safe I used Heavy Support settings. One out of 15 rings still failed to start. In the end it worked well for me but if I were printing another batch I would fine-tune settings for each ring individually in order to make postprocessing easier.

Printing from the build plate. In rare cases, I try to print the objects from the build plate in order to save delicate features like a face or to decrease post-processing. Have a look at how I printed and removed the Articulated Dragon by McGyBeer (36 independent parts) on Saturn 2.

Washing and Curing 3D Prints

While featuring an Elegoo resin 3D printer, it is convenient to mention the Mercury X Bundle from Amazon. Washing and curing post-processing stations make post-processing much easier. For $200-250, Elegoo offers both washing and curing devices with their individual platforms. In comparison with the 2-in-1 Mercury Plus (review), two separate devices are convenient but may take up more storage space.

For a casual user, such a setup is quite enough for most of the projects. If frequent washing is involved, I would recommend obtaining an extra washing bucket for the initial rinse. The thing is, Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) quickly becomes saturated if you place the whole build plate with the print into the washing tank as recommended. An optimized way would be to remove the print from the build plate, then rinse it in one bucket, and fine rinse it in another. Test Printing in ABS-Like Resin

The following example will be a resin print from a 3D scan. While on holiday, I scanned a statue of Ibn al-Baytar (Sculptor: Reed Armstrong), a botanist and physician from the 1200s. This monument is especially interesting as it presents a challenge for both 3D scanning and 3D printing. The bronze flower in Ibn al-Baytar’s hand is a small but important element of the entire monument. I managed to complete the scan of the monument by taking 240 images in Polycam’s Auto-Photo mode. Here is the link to the model with the original texture on Polycam (review), where it is possible to rotate the model 360 degrees.

In Blender, I cut the base more evenly and made the model solid for 3D printing. The scaled and rotated model in Chitubox took approximately 50% of the Saturn 3 print capacity. For the first time, I didn’t dare to print this model any larger. I decided to print the model straight from the bed and moved all support bases away to make sure these won’t fuse with the model’s base. This model could be made hollow, but I chose not to do so this time.

Elegoo Grey ABS-like resin worked well for this model. I like the color and the feel of the completed model.

The only place where the print failed is the sleeve. One of the supports failed to build up until the sleeve started, and therefore the printing of the sleeve didn’t start in time. Luckily, it didn’t affect the entire print, and the model is still gorgeous. I am not sure whether to blame Chitubox or the machine for this. Just in case, I added extra supports under the sleeve for future prints.

Post-processing proceeded as follows: The model was washed with supports in IPA for 2 minutes; the supports were then removed; it was washed again for another 2 minutes; it was then dried and finally cured for 2 minutes standing up, plus an additional 2 minutes on its side.

I feel that my 3D scan / 3D print project was overall a success, but a couple of the flower petals had very thin walls and didn’t print precisely. Test Printing in Basic Resin

Another resin I tried while testing Elegoo Saturn 3 was Anycubic Basic White. I always wanted to print DaveMakesStuff models and this resin and shade worked well with the task. Dave’s designs are awesome and he also promotes them by producing well-taken images and videos of the prints. Pastel white PLA complements his designs well. Here are the miniature versions of his designs in resin.

Crockery. In order to complete this mini project, I took the models from three themes: Heartbeat, Teeth, and Smashed. I scaled the models to 35% of the original. I think these are slightly bigger than printing for the dollhouse. I am sure these can be scaled down even further. The Saturn 3 build plate can accommodate a lot of them in one go.

The most challenging objects were the Smashed Crockery. More supports and post-processing were required in comparison to other themes.

Resin 3D printed parts are usually printed to be buffed and painted further. As I don’t possess such skills yet, I try to find objects that look gorgeous straight after curing. Dave’s crockery looks nice after being printed, without any painting involved.

Jewelry. 3D printing jewelry models in wax resin for further casting is one of the biggest applications where resin 3D printing is widely and successfully used. I briefly searched for the jewelry casting process and this short video explains it the best. In a couple of words: such 3D prints are used to 外国亲热视频 a mold, so the wax resin prints, while creating a mold, are getting melted away at specific temperatures. Then, liquid metal is poured into the mold, cooled down, and the objects are post-processed.

One fail out of 15. The first attempt to 3D print the jewelry in wax resin came out great despite one of the spider rings failing to print. I think it was a good idea to move the objects closer to each other so they 外国亲热视频d a single base out of the support bases. This secured the first layer adhesion and made it much easier to remove after the print was washed.

There is a bunch of high-quality jewelry models for free by Cadagency on Cults. I printed five different models. I duplicated some of them for different sizes.

Sandcastle is another 3D scanned object. The original Sandcastle is approximately 4 meters long and 2 meters wide. Thanks to resin 3D printing, I managed to print it much smaller. I liked this SUNLU Red Wax resin shade, it is more dark orange/beige than red though. If I were the artist creating such sandcastles and other sand art, I would definitely capture them and print them out in the form of such small miniatures as souvenirs. The Saturn 3 build plate is large enough to print a bunch of them in one go just in a couple of hours. Post-processing is a little bit messy, but as there is a small amount of supports, it should still make this process quick.

Hardware Features

Unlike the other printers in the Elegoo Saturn like the Elegoo Saturn S family that feature a curved red UV lid, the Saturn 3 Ultra 12K has a distinctly angled jet-black UV lid that looks like a tinted window on a sports car. The 4-inch HD IPS touchscreen is an improvement over the smaller LCD interfaces on previous machines.

The Saturn 3 Ultra 12K also has an integrated air filter located behind the resin vat which can be removed for cleaning and changing of the filter cartridge. The Z-axis uses a pair of linear rails and a ball screw for linear motion, a configuration that keeps the gantry rigid during printing as well as offering precise motion.

Like other printers in this price range, the Saturn 3 Ultra 12K includes common accessories such as a plastic scraper, paper funnels for recycling material, a metal scraper for removing prints from the build platform, masks, rubber gloves, and a sheet of paper used for leveling the build platform. The 4-inch LCD interface features an updated UI that adds an extra layer of excitement to the machine, and shows a colorful graphic during printing to show the status of the print. In a strange twist, the Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K uses a four-point build platform leveling process, similar to Anycubic printers like the Photon Mono X. This is a manual process that can be tricky due to the platform shifting slightly while the bolts are being tightened, as well as using upward-facing bolts which fill with resin during printing and are difficult and frustrating to clean.

Meanwhile, the Anycubic Photon Mono M5s has switched over to a completely automated build platform leveling process, an inclusion that makes sense for a more advanced machine. It’s unclear why the Saturn 3 Ultra 12K uses this manual leveling process, as the less expensive Saturn 3 12K model uses the two-point systems found on previous Saturn printers like the Saturn S, which is faster and less-error prone to calibrate as well as easier to clean in my experience.”

It’s a rare miss for Elegoo, a company that typically offers rock-solid hardware and incrementally more advanced technology with each new release. Considering the nearly identical masking LCD resolution and price point of the Photon Mono M5s, it’s surprising to see Elegoo change the build platform leveling to a more manual process instead of a more automated one.

Serving to punctuate this change, the first model I printed after leveling the platform did not fully adhere to the platform and began delaminating shortly after printing. This is one of only a handful of failures I’ve had on an Elegoo resin printer, despite printing hundreds of builds.

Printing with Chitubox

Elegoo has included a machine profile for the Saturn 3 Ultra 12K with the latest build of Chitbox, as well as normal and fast print profiles. The normal profile uses a .05mm layer height, a commonly used default for resin printers, while the fast profile uses a .1mm layer height.

Chitubox is a common slicer used for resin 3D printers, and the latest build of the Free version includes all the features you would expect (hollowing, supporting, etc.) as well as the notably exciting inclusion of Wi-Fi transfer.

Wi-Fi

Chitubox 1.9.5 can send sliced files via Wi-Fi to printers that utilize a Wi-Fi connection, which the Saturn 3 Ultra 12K can do. The feature works well for sending prints to the printer, but unfortunately, Chitubox can only send a file when the printer is idle. As someone who slices files in a different room than the printer is located, having to go check the printer status before sending the file via Wi-Fi defeats the purpose of sending files wirelessly. Ideally, the print could still be sent when the machine was running and added to the internal library which can be accessed after printing.

Printing on the Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K

Using the included Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K slicer profile in “Normal” mode (50 micron layer height), I prepared a 3D scan of a statue of Hercules I captured using Polycam. The auto-generated support structure looked sufficient to support the model, but I still added a few extra supports to help guarantee print success. Generating support structures is easy in Chitubox, and once the file was complete I used the new Wi-Fi feature to send the sliced file to the printer.

Printed with Elegoo Standard Photopolymer Resin in Grey, the model printed in just over 7 hours. The supports generated by Chitubox have a tapered point where they meet the model, so they can be easily separated and removed without damaging the model or leaving large unsightly defects.

After rinsing and curing the printed model, the detail really started to shine. The 12K resolution is able to reproduce even the finest detail on the model, and the veins present on the original marble sculpture can be seen even at this small scale. The 50 micron layer height and ultra-high XY resolution combined to make a print that could easily pass as a molded or cast model.

This level of detail translates over to smaller models like miniatures, like the Two Aliens in a Trenchcoat model from Loot Studios. Printed at both 75mm and 32mm scale, the printed models retain all the detail of the digital model and the overall quality is superb.

Fast Mode on Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K

The Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K features a “Fast Mode” which allows for significantly increased print speed to reduce the overall time used when printing a model. This mode is surprisingly fast, and reduces the print time of the Alva bust by Dante Zuck from 9 hours down to 2 hours and 46 minutes. From about a foot away it’s impossible to tell the models apart, and the differences are only apparent when viewing the models up close.

Printed with Anycubic Water Washable resin in Aqua Blue, the layers can be seen at the very top of the model on the shallow curved surface of the helmet. The 100 micron layers are visible to the naked eye, but the 50 micron layers are very difficult to see without magnification.

The overall level of detail on the models is comparable, and it’s easy to see what a compelling feature the Fast Mode is when trying to quickly print a draft model while still retaining a high level of detail.

Hardware Features

Having had the opportunity to try out the Creality Halot-One Resin 3D Printer, I was able to experience great features first-hand. These features all 外网性视频 to the machine’s overall ease of use and the quality of prints that it produces.

Having had the opportunity to set up and print on the Creality Halot One 3D SLA printer, I can attest to the simplicity of its setup process.
To begin, the printer must be levelled by slackening the four screws on the build-plate sides and then placing a levelling paper on the screen. From there, the tools section on the screen can be accessed to move the z-section and press home, which will cause the build plate to lower to the screen. Once the plate is in place, the four screws can be tightened, and the build plate can be lifted in preparation for printing.

Creality Halot-One setup process was straightforward, and the levelling process was especially simple. It is clear that Creality places a premium on user experience and makes the process of setting up and printing as simple as possible. As an experienced 3D printer user, I appreciated the ease and efficiency of the Creality Halot One setup process. With an all-metal plate, the Halot One is like most SLA printers. The build size of 127 x 80 x 160 mm is on the small size but still very capable of printing excellent quality prints and is also a very good beginner’s printer to learn on.

Visually, the yellow rectangular UV lid of the Anycubic Photon Mono M5s fits in with the rest of the Anycubic MSLA resin 3D printer family, and the brushed metal nameplate is similar to the high-end Photon M3 Premium. Some features of the Photon Mono M5s include a Z-stage with dual linear rails, a 10.1″ mono masking LCD with a resolution of 11,520px x 5,120px (12K), a laser-etched build platform, and a variety of sensors that provide real-time feedback before and during printing.

The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s includes the typical accessories you’d expect from a resin 3D printer in this price range, including the power supply, a pair of scrapers for removing parts from the platform as well as stirring resin in the vat, a USB thumb drive for transferring files, gloves, and a set of paper filters for filtering cured resin out when pouring it back into the bottle.

Automatic Build Platform Leveling

Leveling the build platform can be a daunting task for beginners, as the platform must be perfectly planar with the LCD screen and resin vat film in order to get a consistent offset at all points. Typically, resin printers like the Anycubic Photon M3 Plus or the Elegoo Mars 3 Pro use a multi-bolt leveling system to set the position of the platform, which can be a tedious and difficult task. If the build platform isn’t leveled, parts will have difficulty adhering, be dimensionally inaccurate, or potentially cause damage to the delicate LCD screen.

Anycubic has addressed this by adding a mechanical sensor to the cantilevered arm of the Photon Mono M5s which is able to detect when the platform is level automatically when a print starts.

In theory, this sensor completely replaces the need to do any manual leveling and the Photon Mono M5s actually lacks the ability to make any fine-tune adjustments by hand. This is similar to printing experience on filament-based printers like the Prusa MK3s, which automatically level the build platform and don’t require granular adjustment outside the occasionally live-Z adjustment. In practice, this feature worked flawlessly and I did not need to make any adjustments to the 外国啪啪电影 during testing.

Laser Etched Build Platform

The Photon Mono M5s has a laser-etched build platform, a clever feature that helps with first layer adhesion and overall print success. The platform has a delicate series of lines etched on the surface which form a textured surface that allows printed parts to adhere better during the first layer and prevents them from slipping off during printing. This pattern transfers to any surfaces that touch the platform during printing, which adds a gentle texture to flat surfaces.

The resin vat of the Photon Mono M5s has four locating posts that protrude from the bottom surface and serve two primary uses: aligning the vat to the LCD screen and lifting the delicate film of the vat above the surface it is placed on. When placing the vat flat on a table, raising the film prevents it from getting scratched, dented, or otherwise deformed by anything that may be on the table.

Printing the included demo model

Anycubic provided me with a demo model called “Bull Demon King model with high speed testing profile.pm5s”, which takes up nearly the entire build volume of the printer and prints in a stunning 2 hours and 2 minutes in high speed mode. The model is so large that the tip of the ax remains in the vat after printing because the gantry simply doesn’t have the clearance to raise it any farther.

The model is a dense nest of support material, which is time-consuming and difficult to remove. The delicate features require the support to be removed very carefully so as to avoid damaging the model, something I wasn’t expecting in a demo print. After spending about 20 minutes removing the support material, I discovered that the model was too large to fit in the Anycubic Wash and Cure Plus, the largest wash and cure station offered by Anycubic. This is a confusing and frustrating experience, as most users will want to cure and keep the model to display the printed part, but will be unable to without manually curing the part.

The detail on the printed model is eye-catching, and the sharp corners and hard edges look just as good as the fabric and organic surfaces. The model is an impressive testament to how far the desktop resin 3D printer market has evolved, with a print of this quality being printed in just over 2 hours representing a massive leap over printers like the Creality LD-002R, which can take over 19 hours to fill a similar volume.

Anycubic Photon Workshop Slicer Software

Anycubic recently released the latest version of Photon Workshop, called Anycubic Photon Workshop 3.1. Not just an incremental upgrade; this latest version has an entirely new UI and generates support material significantly faster than previous versions of this same software. Photon Workshop is a fully-featured slicer software app which allows users to import a 3D model, hollow it for printing, add drain holes, add support material, cut, add text, and more.

Photon Workshop 3.1 worked very well during testing, and I was able to process models for printing quickly and easily even when using advanced features like cut and add text.

Other Test Prints

Photon Workshop offers several print profiles when slicing a part that are designed to allow the user to select between detail, speed, or a compromise of the two. I sliced Fotis Mint’s Hollow Knight model using the Default Resin – Normal profile, which uses a 0.05mm layer height with a roughly 2.8 second per-layer exposure time.

The model printed perfectly on the first attempt, with no 外国啪啪电影 or adjustment required to the build platform. The Photon Mono M5s provided a “Plug and Play” level of functionality, something that is typically not seen at this price point.

The printed model is smooth and even, and the supports were easily removed from the model. Using the default Normal profile with a 0.05mm layer height, the print took 6 hours and 43 minutes. When sliced with the High Speed resin profile at 0.1mm layer height, the print time drops dramatically to 1 hour and 4 minutes.

Anycubic also included a bottle of the new High Speed resin, a resin designed to take advantage of the fast printing speed of the Photon Mono M5s. The Photon Mono M5s has an advertised print speed of 105mm/h, a significant boost over the typical 20-30mm/h seen in most resin 3D printers. To achieve this speed, Anycubic recommends using a 0.1mm layer height, basically doubling the layer height typically seen on a 3D resin 3D printer.

I packed the platform with Joe Larson’s Chibimals, and made 14 copies of the otter 3D model. The models were hollowed with a 2mm shell, angled slightly, and supported from underneath. These are the typical settings that Anycubic recommends for the High Speed resin, which minimizes the cross-sectional width and allows the printer to rapidly lift the platform from the vat.

The print finished in a jaw-dropping 22 minutes, which is very impressive for any 3D printer. Due to the .1mm layer height, the models had some defined stepping towards the top of the curve. Depending on your application, this may or may not be an issue in a printed model. For brackets or small parts that are being used for functional purposes, layers like this are likely not going to be an issue. Users interested in high-quality models like miniatures or small figurines would likely require the higher detail provided from a 0.05mm layer height.

Water Washable Resin

The typical process for cleaning parts from a resin printer involves submerging them in a solvent bath after printing to remove any uncured material that is stuck to the surface of the part. This process can be messy, and solvents like Isopropyl Alcohol can cause irritation if inhaled. This Water Washable resin is designed to be easier to handle and clean using only water, making it ideal for anyone using a resin 3D printer at home.

Note: Water Washable doesn’t mean it can be rinsed in a bathroom sink. The water, in which the model was washed, has residue resin which needs to be UV cured, and afterward disposed of in a safe way for the environment.

Anycubic Water Washable Resin – Aqua Blue

The Anycubic Water Washable resin in Aqua Blue is a cool blue color that sits somewhere between light blue and turquoise. In a liquid state, it’s thin and has a low viscosity that allows it to flow easily and pour like water. Printing with higher viscosity resins like the Resione M68 Tough White resin can be difficult and requires slower print speeds to allow the resin to flow under the platform, so this low viscosity is a benefit for printing at higher speeds.

Just like the Anycubic Craftsman resin, a resin that performed very well during testing, the Water Washable resin includes some basic exposure settings and general printing information on the side of the bottle.

This information includes a working temperature range, slicer best practices, and a range of per-layer exposure times. 1.5 – 4 seconds is the suggested range for a Mono LCD printer, and I found the 3 second exposure from the Creality HALOT-ONE PLUS worked great for this material.

Printing with Anycubic Water Washable Resin

As the name implies, the Water Washable resin is designed to be washed using water instead of a solvent to dissolve any resin left on the surface of a model after printing. It’s important to note that you should never rinse a part in a sink or allow the resin to go down a drain, as it’s still uncured and can be dangerous.

I used a small container of water to rinse the parts after printing, and used a UV flashlight to cure the remaining resin after it settled to the bottom of the container. Once the resin has been cured and stuck to the sides of the container, it can safely be discarded. This process doesn’t require any additional solvent, and is ideal for anyone who is sensitive to solvent exposure.

Printed using default settings on the Creality HALOT-ONE PLUS, the Aqua Blue resin was used to print the Crystal Formations from Loot Studios without any difficulty. These models have a clean and geometric appearance, with the edges being sharply defined and the smooth surfaces being free of defects.

Printing larger models like the bust of Geralt of Rivea by Fotis Mint worked equally well, showing impressive levels of detail for an inexpensive resin.

General Settings for Anycubic Printers

HALOT BOX Slicer Settings for Anycubic Water Washable Resin

As indicated by the settings on the label, the Anycubic Water Washable resin has a wide working range of exposure times and print speeds. HALOT BOX, the slicer used with the Creality HALOT-ONE PLUS, uses a conservative per-layer exposure time of 3 seconds per layer and a 40 second base layer exposure time coupled with a .05mm layer thickness.

The 6mm rising height allows for fresh resin to flow under the exposed layer and prepare the vat for a new layer to be cured. These settings are a good starting point for anyone interested in reducing print time by decreasing the exposure time or increasing the Z motor speed from these conservative numbers.
